Twelve months ago I hated the smell of gin, let alone the taste and drank mainly red wine, more recently I have totally changed my mind and can’t try enough different ones!

I have to admit for me it’s also been about the tonic and the way it’s served – large glass, plenty of ice and an appropriate accompanying a good fruit slice.

My opinion first changed when I tried my first flavoured gin (Bloom) and had it accompanied with a Fever-Tree tonic and fresh strawberries, what a difference from what I remembered the taste of a pure London dry gin served with standard tonic water, hmmm…..

My Gin tasting journey soon started with trying as many different flavours with suitable accompanying tonics – Puertoindias Strawberry; Sipsmiths Lemon Drizzle; Warner Edwards Rhubard and more recently Tanqueray Rangpur Lime or Tanqueray Sevilla Orange both of which are delicious with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic.

Now the hotel stocks over 35 different gins including some from local distillers and stock the full Warner Edwards Range which comes from a small farm near Northampton and Two Birds Gin from just outside Market Harborough, and not forgetting some of the Country’s old favourites Gordons and Bombay Sapphire.

So next time you’re looking to relax for a while, why not pop along one sunny day and try something a little different whilst sitting on our newly refurbished patio – the perfect end to a busy day.
